BJP state president Samrat Chaudhary on Thursday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the derailment of 21 coaches of the North East Express in the Buxar district on Wednesday night.

The Railways launched an immediate rescue operation after the coaches derailed. Even our Union ministers and party workers were at the spot to extend a helping hand in the rescue operations. Trapped passengers were evacuated but there were some fatalities as well. I pray to the Almighty for the safety of all passengers. The Railways will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident."

Earlier, on Thursday, Union Minister Ashwini Choubey oversaw the restoration work and rescue operations at the scene of the derailment.

"As soon as I received word of the derailment, I informed all the departments concerned -- from the Railways ministry to the Prime Minister's Office. Rescue operations were launched and hospitals were told to be prepared to take in the injured," Choubey said.
