Tamil Nadu: Rowdy sheeter tries to escape from police custody in Chengalpattu, shot at

A rowdy sheeter was shot at and injured by the police when he allegedly tried to escape from their clutches in Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu on Wednesday morning, officials said.

He is categorized as an A+ history category rowdy, they said.

According to officials, the police opened fire after he attacked the personnel while being taken to Chengalpattu as part of an investigation in a case.

He was arrested from Thiruvallur district and was brought to Chengalpattu for investigation.

The team warned the fleeing accused, identified as Thanika, but he tried to escape from the police custody near Mamandur. As a precautionary measure, the team then shot at his hand and leg, officials said.

Later, he was taken to Chengalpattu government hospital where first aid was given. Now he is likely to be shifted to Chennai for further treatment.

Police said that Thanika has more than six cases against him including 5 murders and a robbery.

The accused was shifted to the district hospital and is being referred to Chennai. Further investigation into the incident is on, they added. (ANI)
