Nine unclaimed bodies of Balasore train accident victims have been handed over to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials by AIIMS Bhubaneshwar in presence of CBI officials for cremation on Tuesday.

"We have deployed three dead body career vehicles from the BMC site. We have started taking over those dead bodies for further cremation," BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said.

Meanwhile, AIIMS Bhubaneswar Medical Superintendent Dilip Parida said that we have come to a logical conclusion and in the process, many agencies were involved from central ministries to state government.

"Finally, we have come to the logical conclusion and in the process, so many agencies were involved from central ministries to state government...Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is the final disposing authority. Whatever approval and permissions we had sought have come. Now we are handing over the bodies to the health officer BMC...A total of 28 bodies are left with us and BMC has started taking out the bodies," Parida added.

According to the statement by BMC, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has prepared a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the disposal of the 28 unidentified bodies of the Balasore train accident.

The entire process from receiving the bodies to cremation will be videographed, the BMC SOP stated, the statement added.

The triple train crash in Odisha's Balasore took place in June this year involving the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express and a goods train claimed 295 lives while 176 sustained grievous injuries, 451 suffered simple injuries and 180 received First Aid Treatment.
