Delhi University on Tuesday re-opened the admission process in over a dozen colleges for around 2,500 seats for different undergraduate courses, giving candidates another opportunity to get into the university for the academic year 2023-24.

The university has issued a list of colleges and seats available in different categories. In this "mop-up round", the admission would be done by respective colleges instead of the university, unlike the previous admission process.

In a notification on Tuesday, Delhi University stated, "On the request of a few candidates and colleges, the University has decided to hold a Mop-up Admission Round for admitting candidates in the shortlisted Colleges and Programs only."

"Interested candidates should apply to the respective College as per the schedule and procedure published by the concerned College on its website," the notification read.

Speaking to ANI, a university official said the admission process has been opened for only 13 courses where seats remained vacant in large numbers.

The colleges which have vacant seats in different courses are Acharya Narendra Dev College, AAditi Mahavidyalaya (W), Bhagini Nivedita College (W), Bharati College (W), Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences, Institute of Home Economics (W), Zakir Husain College, Vivekananda College, Swami Shardhanand College, Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences for Women (W), Lady Irwin College and Kalindi College.

Colleges will invite applications from Wednesday, October 11, 2023, till Sunday, October 15, 2023. The last date for admission is October 20, 2023.

There will be no registration fee for applying to the 'mop-up' admission.

The maximum number of courses that have vacant seats are in Zakin Husain College followed by Acharya Narendra Dev College. Some of the courses are BA program B.Com and BSc Mathematics.

The admission process at Delhi University for undergraduate courses ended in September with 65,000 of a total of 70,000 seats filled.

However, many colleges especially on the south campus and off campus could not fill seats in many courses.

The colleges may consider CUET scores or 12th marks.

"To fill the seats optimally, the colleges may take recourse to the following - CUET-2023 normalized scores as per Program-specific eligibility. In case the seats remain vacant after exhausting CUET-2023 applicants, the college may admit candidates on the basis of the marks," the varsity said. (ANI)
