The All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) executive director Ashutosh Mishra on Monday said there are 28 unclaimed bodies of Balasore train accident victims that will cremated as per the procedure defined.

"AIIMS has 28 unclaimed dead bodies. They haven't received any claim from their relatives. The bodies will be cremated as per the procedure defined," Mishra said.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have initiated a process of disposing of 28 unidentified bodies.

"AIIMS has 28 unclaimed bodies (from the Balasore train accident)...we have received a letter from the Khordha collector for the disposal of these 28 bodies so we have requested AIIMS to handover the bodies as per the procedure," BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange said.

He further said that in the presence of CBI officers, AIIMS will hand over bodies to BMC and they will do the cremation

According to the statement by BMC, The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has prepared a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the disposal of the 28 unidentified bodies of the Balasore train accident.

BMC will provide two to three body carriers for the smooth transportation of bodies from the AIIMS in Bhubaneswar to the cremation ground, it stated.

The entire process from receiving the bodies to cremation will be videographed, the BMC SOP stated, the statement added.

The triple train crash in Odisha's Balasore took place in June this year involving the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, the Howrah-bound Shalimar Express and a goods train claimed 295 lives while 176 sustained grievous injuries, 451 suffered simple injuries and 180 received First Aid Treatment.
