West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose met Trinamool Congress leaders at the Raj Bhavan yesterday for a discussion over the non-payment of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) funds and said that he would take the grievances to the government of India.

The West Bengal Governor met the TMC leaders at the Raj Bhavan on Monday for a discussion on the issue of the Centre stopping MGNREGA funds to the state.

Speaking to ANI after the meeting, the WB governor said, "They insisted that I meet them. I invited them warmly to the Rajbhavan. Three representatives came including West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar, MP Abhishek Banerjee and MP Mahua Moitra. I greeted them in the Raj Bhavan and then they very convincingly presented me their grievances which they had wanted me to take to the government of India."

"I promised them that I would certainly take the issues to the authorities concerned. That is my duty as a governor, whatever can bring any good to any person in Bengal, for all the brothers and sisters of Bengal, I will certainly take this matter to the government of India," he added.

Amid the protest by the TMC outside the Raj Bhavan, the West Bengal governor on Sunday called the Trinamool representatives, including Abhishek Banerjee, but they refused to meet.

The Governor CV Anand Bose then gave an appointment to the TMC delegation at 4:00 PM on Monday in the Raj Bhavan, an official said.

The TMC party has been on a sit-in protest in front of Raj Bhavan in Kolkata since October 5.

On day 4 of the protest, the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said, "The previous Governor of West Bengal (Jagdeep Dhankhar) has been rewarded for continuously opposing the West Bengal government; as a reward, he was made the Vice President of India."

Earlier, the party workers organised a 'Raj Bhavan Chalo Abhiyan' in Kolkata.

The TMC leaders during the protest said that the march to the Raj Bhavan had been organised to draw Governor CV Ananda Bose's attention to the plight of the poor people of the state who have been deprived of their rights by the BJP-led central government.

The protest rally is to raise demand for Bengal's rightful dues to MGNREGA, said the TMC leaders.

TMC minister Babu Supriyo earlier told ANI that the people of Bengal are with TMC, and people over here at the protest are not just TMC workers but the common public of Bengal who have been deprived of their wages under MGNREGA. (ANI)
