Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday inaugurated the country's largest construction and demolition (C&D) plant in Delhi's Burari area. The Chief Minister also inspected the plant along with officials.

"I am very happy as today in Burari the C&D plant has been inaugurated with a capacity of 2000 metric tonnes...Around 95 per cent of debris will be recycled. This is India's biggest plant and is made with modern technologies," Kejriwal said speaking to reporters after inaugurating the plant.

Explaining the working of the plant, the Delhi Chief Minister said, "C&D means concrete waste. We have seen that at various places in Delhi, debris lies around which leads to pollution. In this plant with the help of debris, bricks and tiles will be made. The debris will be recycled."

The Chief Minister said that out of 6500 tonnes of debris generated in the national capital around 5000 metric tonnes of debris will be processed in the Burari plant.

"Debris to the tune of 6500 tonnes are generated in Delhi. After this plant 5000 metric tonnes of debris can be processed. 1000 metric tonnes will be processed in Okhla and capacity will be enhanced. So in 1.5 years, all debris generated in Delhi will be processed," Kejriwal said.

"The country's largest C&D waste processing plant was inaugurated today in Jahangirpuri. Made with modern technology, this plant will neither cause air pollution nor much noise. In this plant, we will be able to convert 2000 tonnes of debris into tiles and bricks every day. Our aim is to make Delhi clean, beautiful and clean," the Delhi Chief Minister said in a post on 'X'.

The first phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented in Delhi aimed at curbing dust pollution in the capital, the Delhi Environment Minister said on Saturday.

The month-long drive to fight dust pollution in Delhi started on October 7 and will continue till November 7 under the winter action plan.

Earlier on Friday, the Delhi government issued an official statement that it is mandatory to do self-registration of all construction sites above 500 square meters on the C&D portal while announcing the campaign. The decision was taken in a meeting presided over by Gopal Rai on Thursday. (ANI)
