The Assam government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash-for-job scam that was registered in 2016.
A notification issued by the Political (A) department of the Assam government said that Munna P Gupta, Additional Director General of Police (CID) is the Chief of the SIT. The SIT will complete the investigation of the APSC Dibrugarh police station case no 936/2016. The government notification stated that Thube Prateek Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operation), Police Commissionerate, Guwahati city is the Deputy Chief of the SIT and other members of the SIT are - Upen Kakati, Deputy Superintendent, CID; Rabin Deka, Deputy Superintendent, CID; Inspector Puranjay Bora, CID and Inspector Debajit Choudhury, CID. The SIT has been instructed by the Gauhati High Court to submit a thorough report on the situation within the allotted six-month time period. "The SIT will complete the investigation in a time-bound manner, preferably within six months, and will take appropriate steps to file chargesheet against the accused persons," said the government notification. The APSC was embroiled in a cash-for-job scam, in which nearly 70 people, including its former chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul and 57 civil service officials, were arrested in 2016. Rakesh Kumar Paul was arrested on November 4, 2016, and was released on bail in March this year. (ANI)
