Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLA Jit Arolkar, along with a delegation, met Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and issued a warning of protests if the draft zoning plan for Pernem taluka is not cancelled.

Speaking to ANI, MLA Jit Arolkar said," This plan is made for outside investors. No local representative was taken into confidence about this. If this plan is implemented then our area will suffer. Currently, there are issues with electricity and water, what will happen to it if the project is executed."

Demanding that the zoning plan should be cancelled, MLA Arolkar said that the draft project should be scrapped by Monday.

"1.4 crore sqm of green cover had been converted in Pernem taluka for luxury villas, and hotels. People from our Pernem have only one demand that this project should be scrapped. We are supporting the government but this is not fair. It should be scrapped by the upcoming Monday else we will continue our protests," he said.

During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant demanding immediate withdrawal of the proposed Zoning plan by the Town and Country Planning department.

The Goa Town and Country Planning Board in its 183rd meeting held on August 11, 2022recommended to the Government to prepare a zoning plan for the whole of the Pernem taluka. (ANI)
