Assam CM Sarma attends Amrit Kalash Yatra in Dharapur

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday attended the Amrit Kalash Yatra here in Dharapur.

Taking to social media platform, X, the Assam Chief Minister said that its inspiring to see how people of the state have joined hands to honour fallen bravehearts.

"The soil collected from villages across Kamrup district reached their respective Panchayats," he said.

Amrit Kalash Yatra under "Meri Maati Mera Desh" programme started in Assam on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, state Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr Numal Momin also collected Amrit Kalash in Bokajan in Karbi Anglong district.

The programme, in the state, will be undertaken till October 26 and the urns will be brought to Delhi on October 28.

As part of the Yatra, soil has been collected from households of all villages and municipal wards of the state and it will be mixed together and put into urns in Guwahati on October 26.

Earlier, CM Sarma said that from Guwahati, 270 urns with soil collected from different villages and municipality wards of the state will be sent off to New Delhi, while an equal number of urns will be kept at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati and it will be later used in the foundation stone laying of the state's proposed largest university at Gohpur.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on September 1 launched the yatra.

Under the event, every household, ward, and village will collect the Mitti (soil) or grains in a pot from September 1-30, following it up from October 1-13th at the block and later from October 22-27th at the state level, and finally, from October 28-30th these 7,500 pots will reach New Delhi.

Launching the 'Amrit Kalash Yatra', Shah said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will put soil from these Amrit Kalash in the Amrit Vatika created in Delhi in honour of our great "veers", which will keep on reminding every citizen that we must make India great during the period of Amritkal. (ANI)
