After the CBI registered a preliminary enquiry to probe alleged irregularities in the construction and renovation of Arvind Kejriwals residence, Bharatiya Janata Party National General Secretary Tarun Chugh termed the chief minister as the national capital's "new Sultan" who needed a "Sheesh Mahal" worth Rs 171 crore to live.

Tarun Chugh told ANI "Delhi's new Sultan Kejriwal needs a 'Sheesh Mahal' to live. You said that if anything comes against (Manish) Sisodia, then all of you would resign. You called it vendetta, today (Satyendar) Jain and Sisodia both are in jail. The court has seen all the evidence, today they are in jail and they are not getting bail, this shows how huge their crime is.

The BJP has alleged that around Rs 45 crore was spent on the "renovation" of Kejriwal's official residence - 6, Flagstaff Road - in the Civil Lines area of the city.

Kejriwal should tell the people that when there was the Covid pandemic, you were importing curtains worth lakhs and tiles worth crores from abroad. When the nation needed oxygen, vaccination and ventilators, you were building your 'Sheesh Mahal. Delhi's new Sultan, Kejriwal lives in a 'Sheesh Mahal' worth Rs. 171 crore," Chugh said.

Reacting to the allegation, Kejriwal said "What can we expect from a 'Fourth pass Raja'? They want me to bow down before them. They want to break me. But I will not bow down.

"This shows that the Prime Minister is distressed. Till now, he has had over 50 enquiries conducted. He has got over 33 cases registered against me. He got it all enquired but nothing came out. Ever since I assumed the charge of the Delhi Chief Minister, they have been making enquiries against me. They have found nothing to date", he added.

Earlier this year, the Directorate of Vigilance issued show-cause notices to Public Works Department (PWD) officials in connection with the alleged expenditure on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence. (ANI)
