Two persons have been arrested for allegedly extorting over Rs 10 lakh from a woman after threatening to upload her "indecent photographs" on social media, police said on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Sourav (27), a resident of Bhalswa Dairy, and Maneesh (22), a resident of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh.

As per police, the woman filed a complaint on the Cyber Portal regarding extortion by the two men.

During the course of the investigation, it was learnt that the alleged persons are operating from the Badli and Bhalaswa areas of Delhi, police said, adding that the duo were apprehended from their residences.

"On sustained questioning, Sourav disclosed that he had made a fake social media account and used it to send friend requests to girls. After that, he used to take their indecent photographs. Thereafter, he used to blackmail them under threat to publicize their photos on social media. In the present case, he has done the same and extorted around Rs 10.5 lakhs from the complainant. He received the extorted money in his bank account as well as in his associates bank account," a Delhi Police officer said.

Police's investigation into the matter is underway. Further information is awaited. (ANI)
