Woman gets hands after complex surgery following train accident

Monika Ashok More, who had lost both her hands in a train accident in 2014, underwent a successful bilateral hand transplant surgery on August 28, 2020 and now, she is able to do all her routine work independently.

The surgery took around 16 hours to complete and was performed by a team of doctors at Global Hospital, Parel, Mumbai. Monika is also able to enjoy activities such as applying mehendi on her hands and using a laptop.

Monika Ashok More's life changed on January 11, 2014, when she lost both of her hands in a train accident. She was plunged into depression, but with the support of her family and BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, she found the strength to move on.

Monika Ashok More said "On 11th January 2014 in a train accident, I lost both of my hands after that I was depressed but I got support from my family and BJP leader Kirit Somaiya also supported and helped me. My friends help me in taking the education and I have completed my graduation. My father was inquiring about hand transplant surgery. After waiting for almost 2 years I got the call for surgery, on August 28, 2020, a bilateral hand transplant was successfully done, it took around 16 hours for the operation. I'm feeling better,"

Monika added, "I can apply 'mehendi' on my hand I'm going on a job, I'm now doing all routine work as well; Now I'm not dependent on anyone. I'm independent now. I want to give a message that people should come forward and help, not only take photos or videos, "

Monika's mother, Kavita Ashok More, is very happy with her daughter's progress. She said, "We were worried after her accident. After her hand transplant, she does not depend on us. We are very happy. I want to give a message that girls who go out for work should come comfortably and should travel carefully,"

Monika's brother, Kartik Ashok More, said that his sister had taken their father's place.

He said, "She gives me pocket money and gifts, and takes good care of me." (ANI)
