Mumbai: Fire breaks out on 13th floor of Dadar high-rise, 60-year-old man dies after inhaling toxic smoke

A fire broke out on the 13th floor of a high-rise building in the Dadar area of Mumbai on Saturday, leaving an elderly dead, officials said.

According to Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the victim has been identified as 60-year-old Sachin Patkar.

"The fire broke out at 8:37 am today. The blaze was reported on the 13th floor of the Raintree building located at Hindu Colony, Gully No-2, in Dadar (East). The high-rise has a total of 15 floors," an official said.

"A 60-year-old resident was reported to have inhaled toxic smoke from the fire. He was rushed to Mumbai's Sion Hospital but succumbed," the official added.

On his arrival at the hospital, the elderly was declared dead at 9:52 am, the official informed further.

In a similar incident earlier, a fire broke out at a branch of State Bank of India (SBI), near the Madurai Periyar Bus Stand, in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday, officials said.

According to officials, the fire broke outaround 3 am on Saturday.

The police patrol team noticed the fire and immediately sent word to the fire services department. Firefighters soon arrived at the scene and doused the blaze. (ANI)
