A day after the Women's Reservation Bill was passed with 454 members voting in favour of the legislation in the Lok Sabha, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that the bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday for passage.

"In Rajya Sabha, the Women's Reservation Bill will be brought through Supplementary Business as we were late in Lok Sabha yesterday. The Lok Sabha Secretariat knows better about it. But I can tell you that the discussion will be held in Rajya Sabha today," he said while talking to the reporters.

After the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill in Rajya Sabha, all the women MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will greet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his chamber located at Parliament House today, sources said.

On being asked whether the success of Chandrayaan-3 will be discussed in the House, Meghwal said that the House will hold a detailed discussion on the nation's success in its moon expedition. Chandrayaan-3 has played an important role in the development of the space sector in India.

"India has succeeded a lot in the space sector, and this mission has played an important role in this. Discussions will be held in connection with the success of the mission in the House today," he said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Lok Sabha passed the Womens Reservation Bill, which provides for 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023, received approval after a reply by Law Minister Meghwal.

The bill was passed following division, with 454 members voting in favour of the legislation and two against it on the motion for passage moved by Meghwal. The amendments moved by opposition members were negative, and there was also voting on clauses of the bill.

The 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' is the first bill passed by Lok Sabha during the special session after it shifted to the new Parliament building on Tuesday.

The 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' is "historic legislation" that will further boost women's empowerment and enable "greater participation of women in our political process," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday after the passage of the bill in Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, the Central government is all set to move the Repealing and Amending Bill, 2023, in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday to repeal certain enactments and amend a minor drafting error in the Factoring Regulation Act, 2011.

As per the list of businesses, Meghwal will move the Repealing and Amending Bill, 2023, which was passed in the Lok Sabha in July this year.

The bill is now pending in the Rajya Sabha.

The bill seeks to repeal 65 laws that are obsolete or that have been made redundant by other laws. It also corrects a minor drafting error in the Factoring Regulation Act of 2011.

It also repeals Appropriation Acts from 2013 to 2017 that related to the withdrawal of funds from the Consolidated Fund of India. The Minister will move the bill for consideration and passage in the Upper House.

The First Schedule of the Bill lists 24 laws that would be repealed. Of these, 16 are amending acts, and two are from before 1947.

The Second Schedule of the Bill lists 41 Appropriation Acts that would be repealed. These include 18 Appropriation Acts for the Railways. These acts span the years from 2013 to 2017 (ANI)
