Punjab Vigilance Bureau sleuths allegedly caught a junior engineer red-handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 in Punjab's Patiala district, the agency said in a statement on Tuesday.

The spokesperson of the agency further informed that the accused, identified as Ajay Kumar, has been arrested on the complaint of Jagdeep Singh, a resident of Nabha city.

The accused is posted as JE in Nagar Council, Nabha, Patiala district.

"The complainant approached the sleuths and alleged in his complaint that JE was demanding bribe of Rs 50,000 for clearing file regarding change of land use (CLU) of his shop in Nabha city," the statement added.

"A trap was laid and the accused was arrested in the presence of two official witnesses while he was taking the bribe money from the complainant," the agency statement added.

Follwing his arrest, a First Information Report has been registered against the accused at the VB police station, Patiala range under the corruption act.

"Further investigation in this case is underway," he added. (ANI)
