The National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC), India's apex consumer protection body, in conjunction with the Department of Consumer Affairs, has achieved a milestone by successfully resolving 854 consumer cases in August 2023.

This achievement is especially noteworthy as it surpasses the filing of new cases during the same period, marking the highest disposal rate of 188 per cent in the year 2023, read the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution press release.

The NCDRC's exceptional performance in swiftly addressing consumer grievances highlights its steadfast commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring efficient dispute resolution.

This feat was made possible through a series of proactive measures, streamlined processes, and the integration of advanced technologies like E-daakhil, read the press release.

Under the leadership of the President of NCDRC, the commission has taken swift actions to expedite the resolution of consumer cases, thereby ensuring that consumers receive fair and efficient redressal of their concerns.

Furthermore, the Department of Consumer Affairs has been diligently monitoring consumer cases and organized regional workshops to address the issue of pending cases, read the press release.

These workshops have taken place in various parts of the country, with the most recent one held in Vishakhapatnam on September 29, involving southern states.

These workshops provide a platform to discuss challenges related to case pendency and explore solutions.

To maintain the momentum in case disposal, the Department has made it compulsory to file cases through E-daakhil in consumer commissions, read the press release.

Additionally, plans are underway to introduce video conferencing (VC) features through E-daakhil.

Embracing the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Department is working on leveraging AI tools to expedite case resolution.

AI will analyze cases filed in Consumer Commissions, generate case summaries, and undertake various actions to facilitate efficient resolution.

This commendable achievement showcases the dedication of NCDRC and the Department of Consumer Affairs in ensuring that consumer grievances are addressed promptly, contributing to the protection of consumer rights in India. (ANI)
