Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said their 'mama' (maternal uncle) has given a scooty to every student who came first in school.

"Mama has also given scooty to each niece and each nephew who came first in school...," he said while speaking at the Jan Ashirwad Yatra in Vidisha. Chauhan's Assam counterpart, Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present with him at the rally.

Chouhan has referred himself to 'mama' in several of his public speeches in the state.

Slamming the Kamal Nath government for stopping several of the welfare schemes launched by him during his term in office, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said, "...I used to give laptops to those who scored good marks in 12th class... Kamal Nath took it away...I used to give cycles... Kamal Nath took away that too..."

Chouhan said that he has transfereed Rs 4,500 to those who study in Class 6 and 9 and Rs 25,000 for laptop.

"I have transferred Rs 4,500 to those who study in the 6th class or 9th class and who go to other villages to study... I have given Rs 25,000 for the laptop," the Chief Minister said.

Speaking at the Jan Ashirwad Yatra, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there were no roads and no electricity in Madhya Pradesh 18 years back. However, now, Madhya Pradesh has transformed into a 'developed' state.

Taking a dig at former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Himanta said, "Kamal Nath Ji says that this government has not done any work... I respect Kamal Nath Ji, but I would like to remind you that when I came to Madhya Pradesh 18 years ago, there were no roads, and no electricity in homes..."

"In Shivraj Ji's government, there was agricultural growth, irrigation water came, roads were made, and Ladli Lakshmi Yojana and Ladli Behna Yojana were launched. Madhya Pradesh has become an example of a developed state," Himanta said praising the Shivraj Singh Chauhan government for its women-centric welfare measures.

Madhya Pradesh will go to polls in November this year. The state will witness a direct contest between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress; the results will set the tone for the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)
