Delhi Police on Thursday arrested two in connection with an assault and theft case in Delhi's Malviya Nagar area. The search to nab the third accused is underway.
According to the police, the victim, Vinit Mahto, was assaulted on the street in the Malviya Nagar area at around 11:30 pm. In the complaint, the victim informed that he was returning from a seminar with his friends when he stopped his car to borrow a lighter from a person who was standing on the street. The victim alleged that the person first started abusing him and then pushed him, due to which he fell down. The accused then called two of his friends, and three of them started beating Mahto. The victim informed the police that one among the three snatched his phone, and another two took other items from his car. Due to the beating, the victim became unconscious for a few moments and later found that two mobile phones, one credit card, a voter ID, and Rs 10,000 in cash were missing from his car. After the accused fled from the spot, the victim went to Malviya Nagar Police Station and registered a complaint. According to the police, the victim is a Colonel in the Army and a resident of Chanakya Puri. The two accused arrested have been identified as Mithun (28) and Mukul. Two mobile phones have also been recovered from them, and a search operation to nab the third one, Bobby, is underway. The incident has once again raised questions about police patrolling at night. Earlier in July, a similar incident happened in southeast Delhi, where three people were arrested for assaulting and snatching a mobile from a person. (ANI)
