Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Tuesday said that Uddhav Thackeray should apologise for his 'Godhra-like' remarks.

Retaliating to Thackeray's remarks, Maurya said, "No one will get even a scratch in Uttar Pradesh when the Ram Lalla is placed at his birthplace after 500 years. Law and order in Uttar Pradesh is in its place. Police are always active."

"He should apologise for his statement... People with such a mentality are aware that now that era has ended in Uttar Pradesh...," he added.

Earlier, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray had said, "In the coming days, Ram Mandir will be inaugurated...There may be a possibility that many Hindus will be called from all over the country for the inauguration and after the ceremony is over, they can do something like the Godhra incident..."

Reacting to the remarks made by Thackeray, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said that such remarks are shameful and the whole INDIA bloc can cross any limits to garner votes.

Around 58 people lost their lives when some coaches of Sabarmati Express were torched at the Godhra Railway Station in Gujarat on February 27, 2002. The incident triggered large-scale riots in Gujarat. A local court in 2011 convicted 31 accused and acquitted 63 people. Eleven accused were sentenced death penalty while the rest were awarded life imprisonment.

Meanwhile, sources said that there is a possibility that the inauguration of the Ram Temple could take place early next year, so preparations for this event are in full swing. (ANI)
