Amid the incident of sexual assault on a BJP candidate during Bengal panchayat polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Harnath Singh Yadav on Saturday said that President's rule should be imposed in the state.

Harnath Singh said that the opposition should stand up against such incidents without playing politics. The incident in Manipur is unfortunate, but the opposition should also speak unitedly about what is happening in Rajasthan, Bengal, and Bihar. The behaviour of Congress is always against the citizens.

He also targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for failing to provide security to women in the State.

"What happened in Bengal is a heart-wrenching incident. Manipur is visible to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, but being a woman, she is not able to see the constant violence and mistreatment of women in her own state," he said.

"There is nothing left in the name of democracy in West Bengal. I demand that President's rule be imposed in Bengal. The government should consider it," he added.

Attacking Congress over the crimes against women recorded in Rajasthan, Yadav said that Congress should feel ashamed.

"Ashok Gehlot should be ashamed, as out of total crimes recorded in India, a record 22 per cent have happened in Rajasthan," he said.

"Don't look at Manipur. Look at your own state. A woman MLA in Congress is saying that I am not safe," he added.

A BJP worker from Howrah's South Panchala in West Bengal has claimed that she was dragged outside the polling booth and her clothes were ripped off, adding that she has filed an FIR in the incident.

"They (Trinamool Congress workers) dragged me outside the polling booth holding my hair and threw me down the stairs. They also ripped my clothes. Later, I went to a nearby house to borrow clothes to wear. Had my husband not been present there, they could have done anything to me. He saved me. I have filed an FIR in this incident," the BJP worker said. (ANI)
