As Gujarat celebrates "Vikas Saptah," marking 23 years of transformative progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state''s emergence as a premier global tourist destination stands out.

As Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014, PM Modi during his tenure brought Gujarat''s hidden gems to the world stage, launching the ''Khushboo Gujarat Ki'' campaign in 2005 to promote tourism.

He emphasised the development of an ecosystem connecting major tourist attractions through enhanced infrastructure, ensuring a seamless experience for visitors.

This initiative triggered a surge in both domestic and international tourism.

Festivals like Rann Utsav, Navratri, and the Tarnetar Fair gained national prominence, establishing Gujarat as a vibrant tourist hub--a momentum that has only strengthened since PM Modi held office of the Prime Minister in 2014.

At an event in Kutch last year, Prime Minister Modi said, "The Kutch region was once underestimated by many, but today, Dhordo is recognized as one of the world''s best tourism villages, and the Rann Utsav has gained global recognition. Kutch now attracts lakhs of tourists every year."

Gujarat is home to several national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, with Gir National Park being the sole habitat of the majestic Asiatic lions.

As Chief Minister, Narendra Modi championed conservation efforts by enforcing anti-poaching laws and enhancing infrastructure.

The ''Khushboo Gujarat Ki'' campaign further elevated Gir''s profile, drawing eco-tourists and wildlife enthusiasts from around the globe.

Today, Gir''s rich ecosystem and thriving population of Asiatic lions make it a premier destination for jungle safaris and nature lovers, offering unforgettable experiences in the heart of nature.

Neeta, a tourist, shared, "We haven''t seen the kind of security for lions anywhere else like we have here. There are many facilities here that can only be found in Gujarat. It is a matter of pride for us that there is no place like this in the entire world."

Sheetal, another tourist, remarked, "The government is doing a great job here, and we''re confident it will continue in the future. After entering, we had an excellent guide, and our bus driver explained everything to us very well."

Gujarat has unveiled stunning adventure and eco-tourism destinations like Saputara and Gira Waterfalls, which attract nature lovers with breathtaking landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and outdoor activities.

Beyond its natural beauty, the state''s rich cultural heritage, exemplified by majestic forts, intricate stepwells, and ancient temples, captivates tourists with its vibrant historical tapestry.

The development of the Sabarmati Riverfront and the launch of the ''Akshar River Cruise'' in Ahmedabad have further enhanced Gujarat''s appeal, offering unique experiences along the scenic river.

The Statue of Unity, inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi as the world''s tallest statue, stands as a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel''s legacy.

This symbol of unity and national pride draws visitors from across the globe, enriching Gujarat''s cultural significance.

A tourist visiting the Statue of Unity commented, "Gujarat and all of India are witnessing tremendous tourism development. It''s open to the world, welcoming everyone to visit our tourist sites."

Another tourist added, "The environment here is very pleasant, and seeing the statue made me very happy. The cleanliness here is also quite impressive."

Gujarat saw a 58 per cent increase in foreign tourists in 2023, with 28.06 lakh visitors, up from 17.77 lakh in 2022, according to the Union tourism ministry.

This places Gujarat second only to Maharashtra, which had 33 lakh foreign tourists in 2023.

Under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the Gujarat government continues to advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi''s vision through the "Khushboo Gujarat Ki 2.0" campaign.

This dynamic initiative celebrates Gujarat''s vibrant culture, art, and heritage, reaching a global audience.

By promoting tourism, investment, and cultural exchange through various events and exhibitions, it aims to showcase the state''s unique charm and rich traditions on the world stage. (ANI)
