Filmmaker Karan Johar has come out in support of Alia Bhatt starrer 'Alpha', urging people to avoid toxicity surrounding the efforts of the team.

In an Instagram story, Karan noted how the audience has risen above online negativity and stood as the "true warriors".

"When footfalls are a challenge ALPHA takes a solid start! It emphasises many things... the audience is way above online negativity and they are the true warriors... the stardom and theatrical pull and unquestionable talent of Alia Bhatt and the impact of a big screen spectacle is undebatable and that YRF has a continued franchise and an endeavor to create theatrical tentpole experiences that need our applause and not our toxicity!" the filmmaker wrote.

Karan went on to ask fans to celebrate the essence of cinema as he continued, "Please relax and celebrate that the cinemas are breathing!!! Go watch ALPHA and stop doom scrolling!!"

Alia Bhatt and Sharvari's 'Alpha' has received a lukewarm response from critics and moviegoers alike.

Alpha, the latest instalment in YRF's Spy Universe, also features Bobby Deol, Anil Kapoor, and a special cameo by Hrithik Roshan.

Despite its star-studded lineup and YRF's spy universe popularity, the film failed to take off as expected, opening to a muted response.

However, according to the makers, the film registered a decent opening at the box office on its first day. 'Alpha' earned Rs 17.42 crore worldwide on the release day, as per YRF.

"India Rs 11.20 crore GBOC (Rs 9.25 crore NBOC) Overseas Rs 6.22 crore GBOC (USD 647k)," the post on YRF's Instagram handle.

Directed by Shiv Rawail, 'Alpha' is the first female-led film in the YRF Spy Universe.

On Friday, Sharavari shared several BTS pictures with her co-star Alia.
