"I am a newcomer every single day": Anupam Kher celebrates 40 years in cinema

Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who made his debut in Mahesh Bhatt's 1984 film 'Saaransh', is celebrating 40 years in cinema today. He expressed his gratitude to Mahesh Bhatt and Rajshri Films for giving him his first opportunity and also thanked the audience for their continuous support and love.

Taking to his Instagram handle, he posted a video that features different scenes from his movies.

Recalling his journey in the industry, Kher wrote, "40 YEARS IN CINEMA AND STILL ROCKING: My first film #Saaransh released today on 25th May, 1984. My directorial film #TanviTheGreat is my 541st film. God, my producers, directors and my AUDIENCES have been kind and generous to me. I have celebrated my successes and failures with equal humility and gratitude!"

He has also appeared in many acclaimed international films such as the Golden Globe-nominated 'Bend It Like Beckham', Ang Lee's Golden Lion-winning 'Lust, Caution' and David O. Russell's Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook.

Kher added that his journey still continues and he is still full of enthusiasm and passion as he was 40 years back. Kher is also grateful to Mahesh Bhatt for giving him an opportunity to be part of 'Saaransh'. Kher played the lead role of BV Pradhan, a 65-year-old man in the film. It was released on May 25, 1984.

Kher is currently busy working on his directorial 'Tanvi The Great'.

'A Wednesday' actor announced the film 'Tanvi The Great' on his birthday on March 7 this year.Sharing the update, he wrote on Instagram, "TANVI THE GREAT: Today, on my birthday I proudly announce the name of the film I have decided to direct. Some stories find their path and compel you to share it with the world! And the best way I thought to start is by taking the blessings of my mother in her temple with my father's pic blessing me too. Have been working on this musical story of #Passion #Courage #Innocence and #Joy for the last three years. And finally starting shooting tomorrow on the auspicious day of #Mahashivratri.
