At Green Lotus Utsav, the Tiranga reached every door before it reached the sky

Zirakpur (Punjab) [India], August 29: There was no chief guest at Green Lotus Utsav this Independence Day. No stage, no ribbon, no branded backdrop on the central lawn. Zirakpur developer skips the stage-and-speeches format, delivers flags home to home across 13 towers

What there was, by the morning of August 15, was a tricolour on balcony after balcony across the society's thirteen towers -- each one put up by the family living behind it.

In the days leading up to Independence Day, the Green Lotus team went door to door across the 12.25-acre development on PR-7 Airport Road, handing a national flag to every occupied home.

The decision to run the campaign as a distribution drive rather than a central event was deliberate.

"Har Ghar Tiranga is a very literal instruction. Every home. If we had called everyone down to one lawn for one hoisting, that would have been our event, with the residents as an audience. We wanted it the other way around -- the flag in their hands, hoisted at their own home, on their own terms," Amit Mittal, Managing Director, Green Lotus Group.

The distinction showed in what happened next. Once the flags were distributed, the society did the rest on its own. Residents hoisted through the morning of the 15th, floor by floor, without a schedule to follow.

"You could stand in the parking and look up and see the whole building had done it. Nobody organised that. It just happened," Ankur Thapar, Resident of Green Lotus.

For Green Lotus Group, which has built Utsav alongside Green Lotus Avenue and Green Lotus Saksham in Zirakpur, the initiative sits alongside a broader positioning around community living. Utsav is pre-certified IGBC Platinum and registered under RERA (PBRERA-SAS79-PR0425), and the group has consistently framed the project around long-term resident experience rather than one-time sale.

That framing is what the Tiranga drive was testing. Amenities can be built and handed over. Neighbourhood behaviour cannot -- a developer can only create the conditions and then step out of the way.

Zirakpur's gated developments have grown quickly along the airport corridor over the past five years, and resident-led community programming has become one of the few genuine differentiators between projects offering broadly similar specifications. Green Lotus's approach this Independence Day was to put the developer's role at the start of the story rather than at the centre of it.

The flags stayed up across the towers through the following days.
