India has removed export restrictions on wheat and durum wheat with immediate effect, while separately allowing free exports of wheat flour and related products, including atta and maida, according to two notifications issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on Monday.

In its notification on wheat, the DGFT revised the export policy for wheat under specified ITC (HS) codes from "Prohibited" to "Free".

"The export policy of Wheat under the above-mentioned HS Codes is revised from 'Prohibited' to 'Free' with immediate effect," the DGFT said in Notification No. 35/2026-27 dated August 24.

The change covers durum wheat classified under ITC (HS) Code 10011900 and wheat under ITC (HS) Code 10019910. Both were earlier under the prohibited category and have now been moved to the free export category.

In a separate notification issued on the same day, the government also removed export restrictions on wheat flour and related products falling under ITC (HS) Code 11010000.

The category covers wheat or meslin flour (atta), maida, samolina (rava/sirgi), wholemeal atta and resultant atta. Their export policy has also been changed from "Prohibited" to "Free" with immediate effect.

"The export policy of Wheat flour and related products falling under the HS Code 11010000 is revised from 'Prohibited' to 'Free' with immediate effect," the DGFT said in Notification No. 34/2026-27.

Both notifications have been issued by the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and take effect immediately.

The changes mean wheat covered under the specified HS codes, as well as wheat flour and the related products covered by the notifications, can now be exported without being classified under the prohibited export category. (ANI)
