Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 15: A 74-year-old man suffering from urinary retention was successfully treated for prostate cancer through an advanced Robotic Radical Prostatectomy at Medicover Hospital, Whitefield. The complex procedure was performed by Dr. Pramod S., Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon, highlighting the growing role of robotic technology in the treatment of urological cancers.

The patient had been experiencing difficulty in passing urine for nearly a month. Following detailed clinical evaluation, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and advised to undergo robotic-assisted surgery. The procedure was successfully performed using minimally invasive robotic technology, enabling greater surgical precision and improved patient safety.

Following surgery, the patient was closely monitored in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) before being shifted to the ward. He responded well to treatment, recovered steadily, and was discharged in a stable clinical condition with advice for regular follow-up.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Pramod S., Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon, Medicover Hospital, said:

"Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting elderly men. Early diagnosis and timely treatment play a crucial role in achieving the best outcomes. Robotic-assisted surgery offers several advantages, including smaller incisions, enhanced precision, reduced blood loss, less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stay, and faster recovery. Men above the age of 50 should undergo regular prostate health check-ups, especially if they experience urinary symptoms or have a family history of prostate cancer."

Doctors also emphasized that symptoms such as difficulty in passing urine, frequent urination, weak urinary stream, nighttime urination, or blood in the urine should never be ignored. Early consultation with a urologist can help detect prostate cancer at an early stage, when treatment is most effective.

Medicover Hospital continues to offer advanced robotic surgical care for complex urological conditions, providing patients with world-class treatment through cutting-edge technology and a multidisciplinary team of specialists.
