Elevated ferritin levels often correlate with poorer prognoses in cancer patients, as they support tumor cell growth and survival. Artesunate can reduce ferritin levels in cancer cells, thereby impeding their growth and potentially increasing their vulnerability to other treatment methods. Clinical trials examining the role of Artesunate in cancer treatments have reported encouraging results. In a 2014 trial titled "A Randomised, Double Blind, Placebo-Controlled Pilot Study of Oral Artesunate Therapy for Colorectal Cancer", researchers observed that during a median follow-up of 42 months, only one patient in the Artesunate group and six patients in the placebo group experienced recurrent colorectal cancer suggesting benefit of adding artesunate to cancer treatment.
