13 personalities conferred with Yash Bharati awards in UP
Altogether 13 eminent personalities including two senior journalists and an Olympian were honoured with the prestigious Yash Bharati Samman 2006 at a glittering function here by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today.
The award which includes Rs five lakh in cash, a citation and a shawl were presented to renowned Hindi literature late Gopal Prasad Vyas, tiger conservationist Billy Arjan singh, journalists Gyan Chandra Jain, Kuldeep Naiyar and Achutanand Mishra, renowned writers and poets Hanuman Prasad Sharma, Som Thakur, vocalist Malani Awasthi, Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, defence personality Rajkumar, wrestlers Janardan Singh Yadav and Chandra Vijay Singh and Olympian and former Indian hockey custodian Devesh Chauhan.
Addressing the gathering chief minister Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav said that the awards are not given by him but by the people of the state to remember the contributions of the awrdees.
Asking that all political parties should have attended this award function, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav that these awardees should contribute further towards national cause.
Mr Yadav also said through such awards, the government can also prevent country's talent from going abroad.
Announcing that the awards would continue in the future too, he said Yash Bharati was instituted by him in 1994 and that year it was conferred to prominent Hindi poet Harivansh Rai Bacchan.
Meanwhile, during a brief speech by the awardees, Billy Arjan Singh called upon the state government to provide more financial assistance to the Dudhwa national park, while Bollywood star Rajpal Yadav said he was grateful to be honoured by his home state.
The three sports personalities also thanked the state government for honouring them.
