Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar highlighted his charismatic wit alongside his legendary batting skills while addressing a gathering here today.

Replying tongue-in-cheek to a question on the sidelines of the announcement of the 2nd edition of IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Half Marathon 2017, Sachin said,"I love running, but not for 48 hours. You cannot even sleep for 48 hours, even if you decided to do so."

Stressing that 'health is wealth', the legend quoted figures stating that India, by 2020, would have the youngest population in the world, though unhealthy youngsters are a 'recipe for disaster' and people need to pick one fitness routine to keep them occupied in this regard.

"I am madly in love with cricket and to prepare for the World Cup, I used to practice in the mornings and run 2 laps around the Shivaji Park daily to handle just the weight of the bat, pads, gloves during play," Sachin added.

Sachin, who is also the face of the event, donated 100 pairs of shoes to encourage running and fitness and described the participants, including youngsters to 70-year-olds, as incredible in their enthusiasm and energy.

Earlier, Vighnesh Shahane, chief executive officer of IDBI Federal Life Insurance, announced August 20 as the marathon date with the event being flagged off by Sachin from Kala Ghoda and participation being confirmed by 15,000 runners.

"We are holding marathons in four major cities across India including Mumbai, New Delhi, Kochi, Kolkata," said Shahane.

Also, around 21 star runners of the IDBI Federal Life Insurance Mumbai Marathon, who hail from different walks of life but share a common passion for running, shared their running experiences.

The runners included 78-year-old Khushroo Patel, Shibani -- the first kidney transplant survivor -- to complete a 21 km marathon, and a husband-wife runner duo of Sunil Shetty and Sangita Shetty, who have been running various ultra-marathons and are about to make their mark in the Guinness Book Of World Records for being the first couple to run a 48-hour ultra-marathon.UNI XR SS SB KU SHK 1619
