The Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority (MWRRA) today directed the officials concerned to release total 12.84 tmc of water into the parched Marathwadas Jayakwadi dam situated in this district from upstream dams under the principle of equitable distribution of water.
Informing about the same to the mediapersons here this evening, Mr Birajdar said total of 12.84 TMC water would be released into the Jayakwadi dam from upstream dams situated in Ahmednagar and Nashik districts under the equitable sharing water act.
Reacting to the MWRRA's order, advocate Pradeep Deshmukh, president of Marathawada Janata Vikas Parishad, said this order has done injustice to the Marathwada region while showing favour to the Nashik and Ahmendnagar districts.
Threatening to launch agitation, Mr Deshmukh demanded to release at least 22 TMC water into the Jayakwadi dam, instead of 12.84 TMC water as directed by MWRRA, from upstream dams in view of the fact that the live water stock in 21 upstream dams as on October 14 was around 90 TMC as against meagre 5.22 TMC live water stock in Jayakwadi.
The equitable distribution of water is contemplated under section 12(6)(c) of MWRRA Act, 2005 and water level percentage in all dams is required to be the same by the end of October.
The GMIDC, which is the implementing agency, has been tasked with monitoring the discharge of water from upstream dams into the Jayakwadi dam in an equitable manner so that the percentage of water in all dams remains the same between October 15 and 31.MORE UNI VKB SS AJ SY 2151
