Smriti Irani detained in Rohtak during protest

BJP Mahila Morcha president Smriti Irani was detained by police along with several party workers when they were protesting againt the cap on subsidised LPG cylinders and increasing crime against women in Haryana. Protesters, led by Ms Irani, were on their way towards Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's local residence here for "gherao", when they were stopped by police near Canal Rest House. Police detained the protesters and took them to Police Lines from where they were released later. Addressing the protesters, Ms Irani earlier said, "The UPA government had promised to reduce inflation in 100 days but on the contrary, it has escalated prices of all articles of common use, including cooking gas." She also said the crime against women was surging high in Haryana and women were at the receiving end. State BJP president Krishan Pal Gujjar, ex-MP Sudha Yadav, BJP national secretary Capt Abhimanyu and party national general secretary Dharmender Pradhan were also present during the protest.
