Baba Amte's sons chosen for Lokmanya Tilak Award 2012

The Lokmanya Tilak Smarak Trust has decided to confer this year's Lokmanya Tilak award on Dr Vikas Amte and Dr Prakash Amte, sons of famous social activist Baba Amte, on August 1 here. Trust president Deepak Tilak made the announcement in a press conference today. The awards will be handed over to Amte's sons on the occasion of the 92nd death anniversary of India's noted freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak. Dr Vikas amte runs the organisation 'Maharogi Sewa Samiti' for leprosy patients in Chandrapur district in Maharashtra.He also runs a hospital at Anandwan and co-ordinates operations between Anandwan and satellite projects. His innovative idea knitted with technology inputs replaced the weed with better fodder yielding weed. As a result, high protein fodder grass replaced parthenium in Anandwan premises. The other awardee, Dr Prakash Amte, is known for a project he worked on for the development of Madia Gond tribals in 1973. Later, the project transformed into a hospital, a residential school and an orphange for injured wild animals. He aimed to improve the health and educational services for the triabls.
