Lt Gen Roy to take over as GOC 16 Corps tomorrow

Lt Gen Rameshwar Roy would take over as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) XVI White Knight Corps from Lt Gen R K Swami here tomorrow, official sources today said.

Lt Gen Roy, who would be taking over the command of prestigious Nagrota-based XVI Corps, was serving as Additional Director General Military Intelligence at Army Headquarters.

Commissioned in the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles (JAKRIF), the General Officer has a wide experience of counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

A recipient of Ati Vishist Sewa Medal (AVSM) and Yudh Sewa Medal (YSM), Lt Gen Roy had commanded the 25 Ace of Spade Infantry Division, and was instrumental in facilitating and achieving synergy among all the components of military civil administration, police and the paramilitary forces in the western border districts of Poonch and Rajouri, which come under the operational area XVI Corps.

The outgoing GOC Lieutenant General R K Swamy, who would be taking over as Chief of Staff of Pune-based Southern Command, was given a warm farewell today at the XVI Corps headquarters, sources informed.

Earlier, Lt Gen Swamy also paid a farewell visit to the office of the Principal Controller of Defence Accounts, Northern Command, here at Jammu.
