N.C. man killed trying to open car door Charlotte, N.c. | August 25, 2008 12:01:13 AM IST
Police in North Carolina say a man died in a freak accident when he fell on a knife he planned to use to get his children out of a locked car. Charlotte-Mecklenburg homicide investigators said Miguel Angel Rivera Lemus, 22, apparently slipped and fell down the steps of his apartment building Sunday while carrying a large butcher knife. He wound up stabbed in the chest. The News and Observer in Raleigh, N.C., said Lemus had planned to use the knife to pry open the window of the family car after locking the keys and his two children inside. All of the evidence and witness statements point to (Lemus' death) being a tragic accident, police said in a news release. Lemus' wife called 911 and then found a spare set of keys to unlock the car door. The children were unharmed. (UPI)
