Two city workers in Brooklyn had a narrow escape when a bucket of concrete fell 23 floors from an apartment tower, and smashed through the roof of a Department of Environmental Protection-owned Prius car, recently.

"I consider myself the luckiest man in the world. A couple of seconds later I would have been dead," the New York Daily News quoted 39-year-old DEP employee Omar Ishak, whose hand was on the car door handle when the bucket landed, as saying.

Ishak and a co-worker, who was walking a few yards behind him, were splattered from head to toe with wet concrete.

Ishak had parked his DEP-owned Prius in front of the building while picking up maps at nearby Borough Hall.

"When we came out I stopped and looked at the maps for a few seconds, and I guess the maps saved my life. As soon as I touched the car door, boom!" he said.

Witnesses to the incident revealed that the concrete bucket ripped through the car roof onto the front seat, and blew out the windshield.

According to them, construction workers fled after the accident.

Their boss, Larry Schwartz of Quality Building Contractors in Long Island City, was unavailable for comment. (ANI)
