Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Anand Dubey on Thursday accepted the defeat against the Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra Assembly election, saying they "could not recognize this tsunami."

Dubey further congratulated the Mahayuti alliance and said Shiv Sena (UBT) needs to introspect after "such a huge" defeat.

"We could not recognize this tsunami. In a democracy, the public is the most important. We respect the decision of the public and congratulate those who formed the government in Maharashtra. We need to introspect where we went wrong. Our manifesto was very good, we talked about all sections of the society," Dubey said.

"We never gave slogans like 'Ek rahenge, safe rahenge' and 'Katenge toh bantenge'... We are sad that we could not win the trust of the public... We never expected such a huge defeat," he added.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC called it a "historic victory." She affirmed that People saw the Mahayuti alliance's development in Maharashtra.

"This is a historic victory. People have seen our development work and we talk about development. People's love has turned into votes and we will all work for a 'Viksit Bharat'. The opposition only did appeasement politics," Shaina NC told ANI.

Earlier, Maharashtra Deputy CM, Devendra Fadnavis said that the people of Maharashtra have given Mahayuti an "unprecedented victory" and there "will be no dispute on CM's face".

"The people of Maharashtra have given us an unprecedented victory. This shows that people are with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In line with the slogan he gave 'ek hain toh safe hain', people from all sections and communities voted for us unitedly...," Fadnavis told reporters here.

"This is the victory of Mahayuti, CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and Ramdas Athawale, this is the victory of unity...," he added.

Answering a query, he said it had been decided that leaders of three parties would sit together and decide on the chief minister.

"There will be no dispute on the CM's face. It was decided from day one that after the elections, the leaders of the three parties would sit together and decide on this. The decision will be acceptable to everyone, there is no dispute on this," he said.

Mahayuti has won or is ahead in 227 of 288 seats in the Maharashtra assembly. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi has won or is leading on 54 seats. (ANI)
