Delhi HC asks Centre to file status report within two weeks in a plea against Kamal Nath

The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Cental government to file a status report within two weeks on a plea filed by Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

Sirsa had moved a petition in 2022 seeking a direction to further investigate and ascertain the role of Congress leader Kamal Nath in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri heard the submissions of the Additional Standing Counsel, Nadita Rao, who submitted that the investigation officer (IO) seeks two weeks' time to file the status report.

It was also submitted that a special public prosecutor has been appointed by the government to pursue the case.

Petitioner Manjinder Singh Sirsa appeared through video conferencing. He submitted that "government has not filed a status in two and a half years. How do we expect justice for riot victims?"

Justice Ohri, after hearing the submissions, granted two weeks' time and asked the investigation officer of SIT to positively file the status report.

The matter has been listed on December 6 for further hearing. An FIR was lodged in the Parliament Street police station in 1984.

Advocate Gurbaksh Singh appeared for the patitioner. He told that the petition was filed in 2022. A status report was called for by the court. Since then government seeking time again and again.

He also said that this case pertains to the killing of two Sikhs near the Gurudwara Rakab Ganj complex. We have moved the petition and sought a direction for investigation and to ascertain the role of Congress leader Kamal Nath and take action against him. (ANI)
