Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme here on Saturday, Secretary In-charge, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Naveen Verma said that this new central sector scheme for the region will focus in five major sectors.
"The scheme will focus in areas of physical infrastructure relating to water supply, power and connectivity, enhancing tourism and social infrastructure relating to primary and secondary sectors of education and health," he said.
Verma said the scheme will fund to complete the ongoing projects under Non- Lapsable Central Pool Resources (NLCPR) scheme and to take up projects of around Rs 1600 crore under the 100 percent new NSEIDS scheme - funded centrally.
Under the scheme guidelines of NESIDS, 100 percent central funding is provided to the state governments of north eastern region.
Meghalaya will have schemes for power supply in Shillong, water supply in Sohra, and construction of road from Mawsmai to Shella and another road to Mawsynram (all in East Khasi Hills district).
Mr Verma said once the schemes are agreed then the DPRs (Detailed Project Planning) will be prepared by the state government and the State Level Empowered Committee (SLEC) will approve it, after which it will be sent to the DoNER ministry for sanctioning.
