Sheeraz Sheikh and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, kept Indian hopes alive for medal in the skeet event of the Shooting competition in the 18th Asian Games at Palembang on Saturday.
Highly rated Anish Bhanwala and compatriot Shivam Shukla performed poorly and crashed out.
Anish, a pre-tournament favourite for a medal, finished ninth in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol with an aggregate score of 576 after the Precision and Rapid rounds. Shivam Shukla shot 569 to end in 11th position.
Sheeraz and Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, shot identical individual scores of 72 out of 75, and were well placed to qualify for the finals, after day one of qualifications. Both Sheeraz and Angad had one perfect round of 25 each at Palembang's JSC Shooting range to be three adrift of the leaders. They will have two more rounds on Sunday before the top six move on to the finals, scheduled on the same day as the last medal event of the Shooting competitions at the Games.
In the Women's Skeet, Ganemat Shekhon was placed ninth and Rashmi Rathore 10th, both again logging identical scores of 68 out of 75. The leading score is 73, and the two Indian women will have to have really strong couple of rounds on Sunday to make it to the finals.
