Chikungunya cases cross 5,000 mark, 1,598 new cases detected in Delhi

Chikungunya cases have crossed 5,000 mark after 1,598 new cases were detected in the national capital in the past one week. According to a weekly bulletin released by MCDs here today , "As many as 1,598 new cases of people afflicted with the vector-borne disease were detected in the national capital till October 1." With these, the total number of patients suffering from Chikungunya has reached 5,293, it said. However, the bulletin report did not mention death of any patient due to the disease. "Since last week , 441 news cases of dengue have been reported, taking the figure to 2,133. Four patients died this year after they suffered from the mosquito-borne disease," the bulletin said. It said that the severity of Dengue is less than Chikungunya this year. UNI DS RSA SB 2001
