Jyothi and Sanjeet fastest runners in National Open Athletics

H M Jyothi of Karnataka and Sanjeet of Services Sports Control Board emerged the fastest woman and man runners, respectively, in the 56th National Open Athletic Championship at the Sports Authority of India Stadium in Lucknow today.

While Jyothi won the 100 metres sprint in 11.57, Sanjeet clocked 10.55 seconds in the 100m race for men.

Soumya B of All India Police Control Board walked away with gold by clocking 1::44:32.00 in the women's 20 km walk. Priyanka of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation covered the distance in 1::49:56.00 for silver. Shanti Kumari of Railways earned the chocolate medal as she was home in 1::52:58.00.

In the one-lap race for women Ashwini Akkunji of Karnataka timed 53.25 for gold and Arokya Rajeev of Services won the 400 metres race with a timing of 46.70.

At the end of second day's proceedings, Railways were leading the points table with 129 points. Services have so far secured 84 points and were lying at the second place. Kerala by logging 38 points were at the third spot and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation were at the fourth place with 34 points, followed by Karnataka with 31 points.
