On the night of June 6, a 40-foot-long Country boat fitted with outboard engine, used for deep sea fishing was destroyed in a fire accident on Pamban north seashore. The marine police claimed that battery leakage could have triggered the fire. The loss was estimated at around Rs 30 lakh, as the boat, fishing nets and other gears were completely destroyed in the blaze. Meanwhile, the fishermen from Mandapam coastal hamlet in Ramanathapuram district, Kottaipattinam and Jegadhapattinam in Pudukottai district, besides several fishing hamlets in Nagapattinam district did not venture into the sea for fishing due to inclement weather condition.
