Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju today launched the tree plantation taken up by Umar Alisha Rural Development Trust (UARDT) in the university campus today.
Addressing the gathering after launching the tree plantation, Prof. Raju said,last year Hudhud cyclone created a heavy damage to the greenery in theuniversity and the authorities concerned have initiated measures to restore normal greenery in the university by planting trees in a massive manner. The Vice Chancellor lauded the services of UARDT for setting-up up tree plantation in the city and other parts of the district under the scheme 'Make Vizag Green'. He also said the university has decided to plant 10,000 trees in the camps in due course. It was our collective responsibility to protect the environment in a fine-tuned manner, he added. The convener of the UARDT Ananda Kumar Pingali said with a viewto revive the glory of greenery of Visakhapatnam, and especially, after it paled into insignificance in the cyclone, the Trust had taken up the project in a systematic and orchestrated manner.
