V V S Lakshman to inaugurate 'Run for Unity'

Former Indian cricketer V V S Lakshman will inaugurate the 'Run for Unity' at necklace road here at 0745 hours tomorrow.

Addressing mediapersons BJP National Council Member and former Union Minister Ch Vidyasagar Rao said in view of the proposed 'Unity of Statue' project to construct 182 meters tall statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Narmada River by the Gujarat Government as memory of Mr Patel who was determined to unite 562 princely states with mainstream India after the British Raj came to an end and said as the symbolic of the figure of 562.

The Gujarat government proposed to conduct races in 562 places across India and 80 lakh people are expected to participate in the programme.

Mr Rao said the 'Run for Unity' would conduct 175 Municipal areas in Andhra Pradesh in which about two lakh people are expected to participate in the programme.

In the city, the run starts after Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's inagural speech was completed at Vadodara where more than one lakh people are expected to be participate. He added.

For this, about 40 lakh people have registered their names through the web-site across the country so far, of them 16,000 from Andhra Pradesh and 5,000 from Hyderabad, Mr Rao said and added several prominent persons in the society like Padmasri awardees, cine actress and among others to take part in the event.
