President Patil gives away awards to Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic, Pali Prakrit scholars

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today conferred certificates of honour to scholars of Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic languages and Pali/Prakrit.

The awards are announced once a year on Independence Day in recognition of substantial contribution in the field of Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic and Pali/Prakrit.

Prof. V. Swaminathan, Prof. Umashanker Sharma 'Rishi', Dr. Shankar Dev Sharma Avtre, Prof. Vijay Pandya Devshanker, H.V. Nagaraja Rao, Pandit Moti Ram Shastri, Dr. Deviprasad Khanderao Kharwandikar, Bhubaneshwar Kar, Pandit Madan Mohan Sharma, G. R. Ramachandra Sastri, Prof. Sitanath Dey, Dr. Kapil Deva Dvivedi, Dr. Ganesh Dutt Sharma, Dr. Jaydutt Upreti and Gouri Dharmapal were awarded certificates of honour for Sanskrit for 2010.

Prof. Csaba Tottossy was awarded the certificate of honour for Sanskrit (International) for 2010.

Dr. S. M. Talha Rizvi "Burque" and Dr. Muhammad Yousuf were awarded certificates of honour for Persian for 2010, while Prof. Mohd. Abdul Majeed, Saeed Ahmad Palanpuri and Prof. Ashfaq Ahmad Nadvi were awarded certificates of honour for Arabic for 2010.

Dr. Udai Chandra Jain was awarded the certificate of honour for Pali/Prakrit for 2010.

Prof. Kaniyambakkam Elayavilli Govindan, Dr. Nod Nath Mishra, Dr. Satya Dev Choudhary, Dr. Manibhai Ishvarbhai Prajapati, Dr. Vijay Pal, Pt. Keshav Ram Sharma, Somayaji Vidwan Samba Dixit, Prof. Rahas Bihari Dwivedi, Prof. Krishna S. Arjunwadkar, Prof. (Dr.) Sadashiva Praharaja, Prof. Indra Datt Uniyal, Dr. Satya Vrat Varma, V. Raghunatha Sastrigal, Prof. Amar Nath Pandey and Prof. Pratap Banerjee were awarded certificates of honour for Sanskrit for 2011.

Huang Baosheng was awarded the certificate of honour for Sanskrit (International) for 2011.

Prof. Mohammad Iqbal, Prof. Hafiz Mohammed Ziauddin Alias Shamsi Tehrani and Dr. Md. Mansoor Alam were awarded certificates of honour for persian for 2011, while Dr. Mohammad Atiqur Rahman, Prof. Zainus Sajidin Siddiqi and Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah were awarded certificates of honour for Arabic for 2011.

Prof. Angraj Chaudhary was awarded the certificate of honour for Pali for 2011.

In addition, President Patil also awarded the Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman to the following scholars of Sanskrit, Persian, Arabic and Pali/Prakrit:-

Dr. Braj Bhushan Ojha, Dr. Somanath Dash, Dr. Sampadananda Mishra, Dr. Veernaryana N.K. Pandurangi and Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Singhdeo were awarded the Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman for Sanskrit.

Dr. Shahid Naukhez Azmi was awarded the Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman for Persian, Dr. Mujeebur Rahman was awarded the Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman for Arabic and Dr. Mahaveer Prabhachandra Shastri was awarded the Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman for Pali.

The distinction is conferred once a year on the Independence Day in recognition of substantial contribution in the field of Sanskrit, Pali/Prakrit, Arabic and Persian. (ANI)
