Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today directed the officials to set up a probe team and ensure removal of encroachment from the public lands in the state. "Some land mafias have illegally occupied thousands of acres of public lands for their personal interest," Mr Yadav said here after meeting Guinness Book and Limca Book of Records holder Master Vijay Singh. He instructed the officials to constitute a probe team and assess the public lands that have been encroached since several years. The UP CM passed this order after meeting Master Vijay Singh, who entered his name in the Guinness Book and Limca Book of Records by staging agitation at District Magistrate office in Prabudh Nagar since 16 years. Prabudh Nagar was recently carved out of Muzaffarnagar district. During the meet, Singh apprised the CM that about 800 acres of public land at Chausana village has been encroached by the land mafias. He said the land, if set free, could be used for developmental works. Besides, it would solve the problem of land acquisition and any violence that occur due to it. In 2002, present UP Director General of Police and former Inspector General of Police A C Sharma had in a report apprised the state government that a large portion of public lands was in the hands of encroachers. The government had then managed to free some portion of land. Master Vijay Singh had walked down to Lucknow from Muzaffarnagar on April 18. He had left Muzaffarnagar on March 30 and had reached here after 20 days. He managed to meet with Mr Yadav after 10 days of struggle. UNI JAS GH BST1700 NNNN
