South Eastern Railway General Manager A K Verma today conducted the detailed inspection of the Bankura-Rainagar-Mathnashipur-Masagram new line project, which was under construction. The last stretch of this project was under construction between Mathnashipur and Masagram (10.4 km). Mr Verma, along with principal chief engineer R K Agarwal, and other officials, reviewed this project from Masagram and covered the total stretch of 10.4 km up to Mathnashipur. Construction work for this project had temporarily been hampered due to certain demands of the local villagers in the recent past. The most important among these issues was the construction of four new halt stations between Mathnashipur and Masagram to cater to the needs of the locals. Mr Verma had recently approved the construction of these four halt stations and this visit of the GM was primarily to inspect the ongoing progress of the work including construction of these four halt stations at Gram Masagram (Mustafachak), Habaspur, Dadpur and Berugram. The total cost of the project (10.4 km) was Rs 40 crore. The local villagers also met the GM at Habaspur, Dadpur and Berugram and said that they were thankful to SER for conceding their demands. Two major bridges in this section had already been constructed. The longest major bridge is 510-m long over the Damodar river which connects Dadpur and Berugram. The 2nd major bridge near Habaspur had also been completed. Work for most of the minor bridges had already been done and the work was in full swing for the construction of underpass and level crossings. The GM while expressing the progress of work also laid stress on the timely completion of the projects. This project was a part of the original Bankura - Masagram project. Presently trains are running from Bankura upto Mathnashipur via Sonamukhi, Patrasayer, Bowaichandi and Rainagar. UNI PC SJC/src1958 NNNN
