Amid beating of drums, sounds of traditional musical instruments and carrying placards and shouting slogans, thousands of tribals today paid their tributes to Bhagawan Birsa Munda on the occasion his 137th birthday celebration. Presiding over the meeting, president of the Mundari Samaj Sawnar Jamda, Sridhar Singh said how Birsa Munda, born at Ulihatu at Jharkhand, launched a movement against the landlord-British combine and declared an end to Victorian and the establishment of the Munda Rule . Birsa Munda was endeared as the God incarnate and therefore called Bhgawan Birsa Munda , Singh further said. Birsa s presence in a village cured the people of that village of all ailments, the speakers said, adding he was rightly endeared as Bhagawan Birsa Munda. The speakers urged upon the people to emulate Birsa s ideals and relentless fight against all types of exploitations of the tribals. Later, a memorandum addressed to the President of India, the Prime Minister and the Odisha Chief Minister, was handed over to the district administration demanding inclusion of the Mundari language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The memorandum further said the language has its own script invented by the Mundari scholar Pandit Rohidas Singh Nag of Salbani village with which all types of Mundari terminology can be communicated.
