Nephrologist Dr M K Mani conferred 'Dhanvantari Award'

Dr M K Mani, head of nephrology at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, was today bestowed with the prestigious Dhanvantari Award , instituted by Bombay Hospital dean and eminent cardiologist Dr B K Goyal 40 years ago. The award was presented at the hands of Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde here. Dr Mani has pioneered innovative techniques and new regimen in the management of kidney disorders. He is recipient of many awards including Padma Bhushan. Replying to the felicitation, Dr Mani stressed for having public-private partnership in tackling the kidney-related diseases whose treatment proves to be very costly. He said the government should make efforts to bridge the huge financial gap as only one per cent of the people having kidney-related diseases can afford to have treatment.
